Ms Teresa Dong has been the programme leader of BBA China Business since 2003, coordinating the development and implementation of two courses, namely China Business Communication and China Business Workshop. These are enormous tasks involving the supervision of a large group of academic staff teaching these courses and the teaching of around 1,000 students. Ms Dong has brought in a wide range of interactive activities in classes to facilitate student learning. Her classes are well prepared and well planned. She implemented Outcomes Based Teaching and Learning in her own courses. Her students are able to be engaged in business communication using fluent Putonghua in both real and simulated situations. She coordinates the Chinese Management Training Workshop in Beijing and Summer Internship for the Programme. She is being given the Teaching Excellence Award for her outstanding efforts in promoting student learning beyond the classroom.
Dr Claudian Kwok structured EF 4314 Corporate Finance II in an innovative way to help his students learn beyond the standard Finance textbook level. In this course, he has developed all course materials using local case studies and simplified information on advanced research to help students develop their analytical skills and learn from different perspectives. Dr Kwok also implemented Outcomes Based Teaching and Learning in EF 5342 Monetory and Financial SysteMs His course materials are well prepared and his knowledge in finance is demonstrably up to date. In terms of teaching strategy, Dr Kwok aspires to train students through "Learning by Seeing and Learning by Doing" --- to demonstrate to students how to critically evaluate different views, and to help students develop their analytical skills through practice. In his classes, we clearly see that he has accomplished this brilliantly. He is being given the Teaching Excellence Award for his innovative teaching and learning activities.
Since joining CityU in 2004, Dr Olivia Leung has been teaching over 900 year-one accounting students every year. She has also been involved in various projects to help year one students e nhance their English proficiency and attention span. These projects have impacted positively on the learning effectiveness of year one students of the Faculty as a whole. Dr Leung has been an active participant in the Outcomes Based Teaching and Learning Project. She has restructured FB2100 and has successfully delivered the course in the learning outcomes mode. Dr Leung aspires to cultivate a positive learning environment and be a role model and learning companion of students. Evidenced by the excellent feedback her teaching and her passionate performance demonstrated in the TEA exercise, Dr Leung has clearly met this objective very well. She is being given the Teaching Excellence Award for her outstanding efforts in motivating students and promoting effective learning.
Prof Tit-wing Lo is a charismatic teacher who has truly put his heart in teaching. His bold initiative in conducting counseling demonstrations in class has produced a deep learning impact on his students as demonstrated by students' comments on his teaching. He has successfully adopted the Western group therapy theories in authentic situations using his own students as clients. He believes that students will learn when they are given opportunities to reflect upon their own problems and find ways to adjust themselves to tackle the problems instead of keeping problems in a "recycling bin". From numerous notes of thanks from students who have benefited from Prof Lo's counseling and teaching, we have clearly seen that Prof Lo has achieved an excellent rapport with his learning partners and successfully developed students' competence in counseling by a risky, but highly effective, experiential approach. He is being given the Teaching Excellence Award for his effective strategies in promoting deep learning.
