Prof Z.Y. Dong is a Chair Professor and Head of Department of Electrical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. His previous roles include Singapore Power Group Endowed Professor and Co-Director of SPG-NTU Joint Lab at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; SHARP Professor of Energy System and Inaugrial Director of UNSW Digital Grid Futures Institute, the University of NSW, Australia; Director of ARC Research Hub for Integrated Energy Storage Systems; Head of School of Electrical & Information Engineering, The University of Sydney; and Ausgrid Chair Professor and Director of Ausgrid Centre for Intelligent Electricity Networks provided R&D support for the Smart Grid, Smart City national demonstration project of Australia. He also worked with industry as manager for power system planning with the transmission network service provider of TAS in Australia. Prof Dong's research interests include power system planning and stability, smart grid/micro grid, smart cities, renewable energy systems, energy storage systems, and energy market. He is a Fellow of IEEE and has held editorial roles for several IEEE Transactions and IET Journals.


Previous Experience

  • 2021 - 2024, SP Group Endowed Professor, Nanyang Technological University. I worked as Singapore Power Group (SPG) Endowed Professor of Power Engineering and Co-Director of the SPG-NTU Joint Lab, Director of the Power Engineering Research Centre, and A Cluster Director with the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
  • 2017 - 2021, SHARP Professor and Director, The University of NSW, Sydney. I worked as SHARP Professor of Energy Systems, Director of UNSW Digital Grid Futures Institute, and also Director of ARC Research Hub for Integrated Energy Storage Solutions.
  • 2013 - 2017, Head of School, The University of Sydney. I served as Professor and Head of School of Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of Sydney, Australia. Also served as academic director for Tsinghua-Sydney Research Alliance for Intelligent Energy Networks, and Director of Faculty Cluster of Clean Energy Networks. .
  • 2011 - 2013, Ausgrid Chair Professor and Director, Univ of Newcastle and Ausgrid Centre for Intelligent Electricity Networks. I worked as Ausgrid (the largest power utility company in Australia) Chair Professor and Director of Ausgrid Centre for Intelligent Electricity Networks providing R&D support for the AUD500million Smart Grid, Smart City national demonstration project of Australia.
