Fees & Charges of Postgraduate Hall

  3. Confirmation Fee
    Upon the announcement of allocation result, applicants are required to pay a non-refundable and non-transferable confirmation fee before specified date to confirm their acceptance of offers.

    Penalty Charges of Late Payment of Confirmation Fee A charges of an additional HK$300 as an administrative charge for those students who fail to pay the confirmation fee on time and appeals subsequently approved by Student Residence Office

  4. Hall Fees Collection 4.1
    For research students, lodging fee are collected on a monthly basis by debiting from the student's personal bank account.

    4.2

    The last month's hall lodging fee for research students will be calculated as follows: residents have to pay one-half of the monthly hall lodging fee if they check out at any time on or before 12 noon on the 16th day of the month, otherwise residents shall pay a full month's hall lodging fee if they check out at any time after 12 noon on the 16th day of the month.

    4.3

    For TPG postgraduate students, hall lodging fee are collected on a semester basis. Hall lodging fees of residential year 2019/20 are payable in two instalments to cover the whole residential period. In general, the due date of the 1st instalment is mid Oct and the 2nd instalment is in mid Jan.

    Hall lodging fee and associated charges will be collected and processed in a similar fashion as other student fees and charges, by incorpating into the regular fee statements issued by the Finance Office.

    4.4

    The hall lodging fee will be charged from the first day of the residence period stated in the application form as the bedspaces have been reserved for successful applicants. Even with late arrivals, the rooms have to be left vacant and cannot be put into use by other students. Therefore, the applicants should be responsible for the payment of hall lodging fee.

    All charges paid are non-refundable and non-transferable.


  5. Early Withdrawal

    Once research residents intend to check out earlier than the last date of stay originally approved by SRO, they are required to submit written notification to SRO at least one month before their new intended last date of stay. Sending the required written notification late will result in the payment of a penalty fee up to one month's hall charges. Please read Point 4.2 for details.


  6. Check Out upon Completion of Study / Termination of Study / Withdrawal of Study / Suspension/ interruption from Study

      Residents are required to inform the Student Residence Office and move out of the hall upon any one of the following reasons:
    1. change of funding source
    2. completion of the normal period
    3. completion of studies
    4. exchange programmes
    5. expiry of the assigned period
    6. leave of absence
    7. study interruption
    8. termination
    9. withdrawal of study
    10. suspension from study
    11. any cases that result in inactive student status
    All charges paid are non-refundable and non-transferable.


  7. Penalty Charges for Late Check-Out and Improper Check-out

    Penalty charges will be levied from residents who fail to check out their rooms upon the end of their approved period of stay, or upon their completion/termination of study, or withdrawal/suspension from study. Penalty charges will also be levied from the residents who fail to properly clean up their rooms or restore the furniture upon check-out. The exact penalty charges will be determined by the Student Residence Office in consultation with Finance Office.


  8. Penalty Charges

    Late Check-out: HK$200/day/person + room charges / day / person
    Improper check-out: A minimum of HK$200/room


  9. Loss of / Damage to Resident Card / Key Card

    Resident Card HK$100 per card


  10. Late Payment

    The Student Handbook contains provisions which empower the University to terminate a student's study and/or to withhold his/her testimonials and academic transcripts and the conferment of awards on account of non-settlement of outstanding fees and charges which include hostel and associated charges.

    In line with the principle recently adopted by the Sub-Committee on Tuition Fees, penalties for over-due hostel and associated charges may be levied at about 2% of the amounts outstanding per billing cycle, to be billed together with other outstanding student fees and charges, if any.



  11. Damage to Hall Property

    Compensation to the University for damage caused to the student residence and property will be based on assessments by the Director of Student Residence Office in consultation with the Directors of Facilities Management and Finance, having regards to the cost of property repaired and replaced as appropriate.
