Surya Deva Discusses Prospects and Perils of China’s New Export, Its Model of Governance

15.04.2020

Associate Professor Deva, an Associate Member of the Centre for Chinese and Comparative Law, in an op-ed published in the South China Morning Post argues that the Chinese government has now started exporting its model of governance as an alternative to the Western liberal model. Deva highlights why certain countries are finding the Chinese model more attractive. He contends that China’s export of its governance model may either cause conflicts in recipient jurisdictions or trigger the evolution of a hybrid model combining elements of both Chinese and Western models.
