To better explore and protect the ocean, we need to understanding more about it. Marine scientists should first complete the process of seeing the ocean by eyes, exploring the ocean by sensors, going into the ocean by boat and diving in the ocean by themselves, and then studying the ocean and making a significant breakthrough in a broader area. To popularize this concept, the International Conference on Underwater Science, Technology and Education (ICUSTE) 2016 is organized by the State Key Laboratory in Marine Pollution, City University of Hong Kong (CityU), which will take place in Hong Kong SAR from 7th to 12th August, 2016. We continue our mission to provide high quality, interactive teaching and NEW learning experiences (including diving skills training, lectures, and equipment demonstration) to the participants. The ICUSTE acts as a platform for young researchers, engineers and students to freely discuss cutting-edge underwater research and to provide them with valuable opportunities to carry out in-depth exchange with experts in marine environmental science, oceanography and engineering. The conference aims to promote the underwater research through the innovative diving equipment and technology, foster the true peer partnership/relationship among marine environmental scientists, oceanographers and engineers to design, develop and deploy state-of-the-art instruments and equipment to explore the complex marine environment and enhance marine science research in innovative ways.
Through scientific safety diving education, we aim to foster a true partnership among marine scientists and engineers who design, build, and use novel instruments and systems to elevate underwater research, ocean survey and exploration capabilities in order to better serve marine environmental science research, innovative technological development and underwater diving safety; and, at the same time, promote and raise the standards for scientific diving certification and operation, enhance underwater scientific development in the Greater China region; promote worldwide collaboration; and heighten public awareness in protecting the ocean.
• To enhance our knowledge and pursue exploration of the complexity of the marine environment in innovative ways;
• To elevate the underwater safety and exploration technological level to better serve marine ecological surveying, ocean exploration and underwater safety; and
• To nurture innovative talents with the ability for underwater research.
