Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for JUPAS Entrants

 

Regulations

 

 

 

The Department of Physics has agreed to establish an entrance scholarship scheme for the undergraduate students who are admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Physics program (formerly Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics program) through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) from its Non-UGC Reserves with effect from the 2019/20 academic year. The following regulations shall apply as of 2023/24:

 

 

1.         The Scholarships shall be known as the "The Department of Physics Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for JUPAS Entrants".

 

 

2.         A candidate must fulfil all the following criteria:

 

i.           Entering through JUPAS on the basis of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) results obtained in the year of admission and should have placed the Bachelor of Science in Physics program in the Band A of JUPAS choices.

 

ii.         Enrolling as a full-time first-year undergraduate student undertaking the Bachelor of Science in Physics.

 

iii.       Having attained 5* or above in any ONE of the specified subjects in English, Mathematics, M1/M2, Physics, or Combined Science (Phy+Chem)/(Phy+Bio).

 

3.                  Eligible candidates will be automatically considered for the scholarships. No application is required.  

 

4.                  A total amount of $50,000 is to set up the Scholarships which are one- off in nature, and is up to $10,000 each. When more than 5 candidates meet the above award criteria, the $50,000 will be equally shared by the candidates.

 

5.                  The Scholarships will be disbursed to the scholarship recipients by two instalments. The first instalment is payable by October of the first year; the second instalment is payable after completion of Year 1 by October of the second year.  

 

6.                  In order to be eligible for receiving the second instalment, the scholarship recipients are required to achieve a minimum CGPA requirement of 3.0 and complete 30 credits units at the end of Year 1.

 

7.                  The scholarship recipients of the “Institutional Scholarships” or the “Dean’s Scholarships” under the CityU Scholarships for Hong Kong Talents are not allowed to hold the Department of Physics Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for JUPAS Entrants concurrently.

 

8.                  The Department has the right to terminate the scholarship if the scholarship recipient is no longer enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Physics program.  

 

9.                  Nomination(s) from the Department of Physics shall reach the Student Development Services by September each year.

 

10.               Confirmation will be sought from the Department of Physics before July each year on whether or not the award(s) shall be continued for the following academic year.

 

 

Remark:

 

With an objective to nurture our students and to promote caring culture, the University encourages each award recipient to make an annual donation of HK$200 or more to the City University of Hong Kong for student support via CityU Alumni Giving Club when they are in employment after graduation. This term has been incorporated into all scholarship/prize/award/bursary schemes since February 2008.
