Master of Arts in Urban Management
Brief Description
The MAUM programme provides students with the essential theoretical and methodological tools to become an urban professional. It will equip students with the knowledge, analytic approach and skills to understand and critically evaluate theories and practices of urban management - both in the region and internationally.

Who Should Apply  

The programme is designed for fresh graduates from local and overseas universities as well as early-career professionals from the fields of urban management in government institutions and agencies, NGOs and business enterprises. Graduates from this programme are expected to enter into or to continue their services with public and private agencies involved in urban management or to continue further study for professional or higher academic qualifications.

Entrance Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the MAUM programme, an applicant must hold a recognized bachelor's degree in a related social sciences or humanities discipline (preferably politics, sociology, economics, geography, urban studies, public administration, China studies or development studies). The applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • CGPA/GGPA of not lower than 2.5 over 4.0 (or an overall mark of 65%); and
  • Second honours classification (except for qualifications obtained in European institutions which in general adopts a different grading system)
Applicants whose entrance qualifications were obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is NOT English should also fulfill the following minimum English Proficiency requirement:


  • A score of 580 (paper-based) or 66 (revised paper-delivered) or 92 (internet-based) on TOEFL
  • An overall band score of 6.5 in IELTS; or
  • A score of 490 in the new CET-6 of China mainland

  • Full transcript (for graduates) / latest transcripts of bachelor's degree together with an official explanation on the grading scale
    Document with official institution stamp, signature or seal issued by the awarding institution
  • Degree Award Certificate (if any)
    For mainland graduates, the degree award certificate (學士學位証) and graduation certificate (畢業証) together with official chop/signature.
  • Transcripts and certificates not in English must be accompanied by an official certified translation
    Original documents should be presented for verification upon request by the University at a later time.
  • For institutions located in countries where English is not the main language of communication, English Proficiency Requirement (EPR) applies unless there is official letter proof from the institution certifying that English is the medium of instruction for the whole or a substantial part of the programme (not for some courses only) completed by the student.
Applications are processed on a rolling basis. Early applications are therefore strongly encouraged. Shortlisted candidates may be required to attend an interview and/or to take an English proficiency test. They will receive individual notification by email or by phone. No hardcopy of letter will be sent to applicants.
