More than HK$8.6 million granted to research project led by Professor Wang Xun-Li

A research project led by Professor Wang Xun-Li has recently been granted more than HK$8.6 million under the Collaborative Research Fund Scheme (CRF) of the Research Grants Council.

Professor Wang’s project, titled “Hong Kong’s Participation at the China Spallation Neutron Source”, aims to support the construction of MPI, a total scattering diffractometer, in exchange for a leveraged buy-in of access to the entire instrument suite at the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), a world-class facility located in Guangdong Province of the People’s Republic of China. It is expected to bring positive impacts on scientific discovery, research activities and technology development in Hong Kong.

Led by Professor Wang, the research team comprises inter-disciplinary co-principal investigators from CityU, The University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor C T Liu (University Distinguished Professor), Dr Liu Qi (PHY) and Dr Abhijit Pramanick (MSE) are also in the team.

The CRF is a government-level scheme for encouraging collaborative research across disciplines and/or across institutions. The list of 2018-19 successful CRF projects can be found here.
