Exploring the tensor network and AdS/CFT correspondence

ABSTRACT

The AdS/CFT correspondence is one of the most important discovery in string theory in the past 20 years. It states that there is a map between the physics of quantum gravity and that of a conformal quantum field theory in one lower dimensions. The microscopic mechanism of such a correspondence remains obscure. We will discuss recent progress in unravelling the AdS/CFT correspondence by a remarkable connection with the tensor network. We will describe how quantitative aspects of the correspondence can be recovered. This could potentially shed new light on the nature of quantum gravity.

BIOGRAPHY

Professor Ling-Yan Hung obtained her Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from University of Cambridge in 2009. She continued post-doctoral work at Perimeter Institute between 2009-2012 and then moved to Harvard between 2012-2014 as a Croucher Fellow. Professor Ling-Yan Hung joined Fudan University as a professor in 2014. Her research interests are listed as follows: the gauge/gravity correspondence and its applications in the understanding of quantumentanglement and quantum information; field theoretic studies of the renormalization group flow and non-equilibrium dynamics, and their applications in condensed matter physics and cosmology; topological phases of matter in condensed matter physics, their classification and phenomenology.
