Tokyo Study Tour 2018

The Department has organized a study tour to Tokyo, Japan for PHY students in Summer 2018. The theme of this study tour is “Exploration of Frontier Research in the Field of Quantum Information and Quantum Electronics”.

There were 18 students joined the study tour on 27 May to 2 June 2018. They visited the University of Tokyo (Hongo Campus and Komaba Campus), RIKEN, National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, and Tokyo Skytree.

Mr WO Kah Jen (BScAP, Year-2) was highly impressed by the advanced facilities and demonstrations in the laboratories they visited during the tour, “This is my first time ever visiting a full-fledged physics lab, and it was a good exposure as it helped to increase my clarity in choosing my future career path,” said Kah Jen. He continued, “Every second of our time in Japan was spent exploring and having as much fun as possible, made new friends with students who went on the tour together, and even went out on an adventure with our Physics professors! I have truly no regret and I dare say it was one of my best decisions to join the Physics Japan Study Tour 2018.

Apart from academic exposure, Mr LAU Siu Jun (BDAP, Year-1) also experienced the traditional culture of Japan by visiting Kamakura, “Kamakura is a small city located in the south of Tokyo. However, it carried a total different feeling of Japan, e.g. many buildings in Kamakura were built in traditional Japanese style. It was very interesting to compare Tokyo and Kamakura,” he said.
