Have you ever wondered what happens when some materials are cooled down to extremely low temperatures? Do you want to learn about the amazing phenomenon of superconductivity and its applications in science and technology?
One of the recent talks on this topic was given by Prof. Denver Li on “The Wonderland of Superconductivity (超導奇境)" to 40 Form 5 students at SKH Bishop Baker Secondary School (聖公會白約翰會督中學). During the talk, Prof. Li explained the basic concepts and principles of superconductivity. This is one of the Popular Science Talks offered by the College of Science at City University of Hong Kong and is tailor-made for secondary school students who are curious about the world of physics and want to explore beyond their textbooks. The talks cover a variety of topics, from quantum mechanics to astrophysics, and are delivered by experts from the Department of Physics.
The Form 5 students were fascinated by the talk and asked many questions. Mr. Kevin Chu, a teacher from SKH Bishop Baker Secondary School expressed his gratitude to Prof. Denver Li for delivering an interesting talk to the students and said that it was very inspiring and educational for them. He also mentioned that he would like to arrange visits to university laboratories for the students to experience research in the coming academic year.
The College of Science at City University of Hong Kong offers a wide range of Popular Science Talks for secondary school students.
