The 10th International Workshop on Solid-State Quantum Computing was successfully held at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) between November 29th and December 1st, 2021 in an online and offline mixed format. This was the first major workshop/conference with a face-to-face component held at the University since December 2019.
President Way Kuo gave a welcome speech at the workshop. He pointed out that the quantum technology “starts small, but aims high”. “With the ability to control the smallest substances in nature, we can do very powerful tasks which one day may revolutionize science and technology.” The workshop featured three plenary speakers including Prof. Yasunobu Nakamura and Prof. Franco Nori from RIKEN, Japan, and Prof. Jianwei Pan from University of Science and Technology of China, as well as 36 invited speakers from more than 10 countries/regions including mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, Israel, Sweden, Spain and the United States.
The workshop has covered a wide spectrum of areas related to solid-state quantum computing, including superconducting qubits, artificial atoms, diamond technologies, quantum dots, quantum optics, topological quantum computing, quantum algorithms and quantum sensing.
More than 60 registrants attended the face-to-face sessions in the mornings of November 30th and December 1st, about half of which came from outside of CityU, including University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Tencent Quantum Laboratory, Invest Hong Kong, and CRE Alliance (Hong Kong). The workshop also received more than 240 online registrations, including those from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Colombia, Morocco, South Africa, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and United States. The workshop was real-time broadcast to the general public via koushare.com.
The series of International Workshop on Solid-State Quantum Computing was previously held in Nanjing (2007), Taipei (2008), Hong Kong (2009), Shanghai (2010), Hong Kong (2011), Beijing (2013), Nanjing (2015), Taipei (2017), and Hangzhou (2018). The next one is scheduled to be held in Guangzhou in 2023.
The 10th International Workshop on Solid-State Quantum Computing was sponsored by the Croucher Foundation, Department of Physics and Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study at City University of Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Physical Society of Hong Kong. The organizing committee was chaired by Dr. Sunny Xin Wang, Associate Professor at the Department of Physics.
