Virtual Graduation Ceremony for the Classes of 2019 & 2020

In view of the rapidly evolving pandemic situation and the possible fourth wave of outbreak, the University has decided, after careful consideration and much deliberation, to change the format of the College/School Graduation Ceremony for the Classes of 2019 and 2020 to online.

The College of Science Graduation Ceremony 2019 & 2020 was broadcasted online through multiple platforms on 2 February 2021. Professor Chun-Sing LEE, Acting Dean of College of Science, was the Presiding Officer of the Ceremony. We were much honored to have Professor Roderick WONG, Emeritus Professor of Department of Mathematics, as our Guest of Honor and gave a commencement address at the Ceremony.

The new graduates were presented at the Ceremony. Mr YEUNG Kin Ho, our BSc in Applied Physics graduate, delivered the graduation speech on behalf of the class of 2019. Kin Ho started working in an investment bank as a Valuation and Market Risk Analyst since he finished his undergraduate studies. In his graduation speech, he shared how physics has inspired him to develop his career in the financial industry. He recalled his first day in CityU, Professor Joseph Lai told the class that scientific knowledge is not permanent and it will become obsolete and be replaced by a new theory. "What we have actually learned is the way of thinking. And with this ability, we are capable of achieving anything we want," explained Kin Ho. Miss FENG Hengxin, a BSc in Applied Biology graduate, also delivered the graduation speech on behalf of the class of 2020.

Moreover, to recognize and encourage collaborative work on the development of effective teaching and practices, Professor Chun-Sing LEE presented the Teaching Excellence Awards 2019/20 to Professor Daniel HO, Chair Professor of Department of Mathematics, for his distinguished teaching.
