Joint Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science and Engineering between City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and National Taiwan University (NTU), Taiwan


The NTU is a leading university in Taiwan.  It was ranked 68th in the world, 26th in Asia and 82nd globally in the field of Engineering and Technology by QS World University Rankings in 2025. Students participating in the joint degree programme will gain:

Eligibility
  1. Full-time 4-year programme students.
  2. Completed at least 30 credit units in their first year of study at the home institution before commencing their study at the host university.
  3. Have a CGPA of 3.3 or above.
  4. Have good English language proficiency.
     • For NTU students to CityUHK, students have to meet one of the following minimum English language requirements:
    i.       TOEFL: 79 on the internet-based test or 550 on the paper-based test

    ii.     IELTS: overall band score of 6.5
    iii.    Taiwan General Scholastic Ability Test or Advanced Subjects Test: English result within the top percentile
     • For CityUHK students to NTU, students have to meet one of the following minimum English language requirements:
    i.      TOEFL: 72 on the internet-based test
    ii.     IELTS: overall band score of 6.0
  5. Meet all the admission requirements of the host institution.

Curriculum Design
Students in the Joint Bachelor’s Degree Programme will spend their first year of study at their home institution, then their second and third years of study at the host institution, and return to their home institution for the final year of study. By the end of four years of study, students will be awarded two graduation certificates: one conferred by CityUHK and one by NTU upon fulfilling the degree requirements stipulated by both CityUHK and NTU.

Application Schedule

Application Period: 1 to 15 February, 2026

Tuition Fee

CityUHK students under this joint programme will pay tuition fee to the home institution irrespective of their study location. Students may apply for scholarships at both institutions on their own if eligible.

Accommodation

In NTU:

1.   Students are guaranteed accommodation, providing their application is submitted by the deadline. No late applications will be accepted.

In CityUHK:

On-campus accommodation

1.    Priority will be given to the first two study years of Full-time Non-local students in Government-funded Bachelor's Degree programme.

2.   Applicants must submit their applications before the deadline specified by the Student Residence Office.

There is no guarantee that dorm spaces will be granted to applicants. The period of stay will be confined to the study term(s) as agreed by City University of Hong Kong and the home university. More information about on-campus accommodation is available here.

Students should seek off-campus accommodation as early as possible before arriving in Hong Kong. More information about off-campus accommodation are available here.

 

Student Visa
