From September 2017 to August 2019, the Positive Education Laboratory of the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences at CityU carried out a whole-school positive-education project in eight primary schools in Hong Kong. The aim of the project is to apply positive education, with character strengths as the foundation and PERMA (Positive emotions, Engagements, Relationships, Meanings, Achievements) as the five core elements, to enhance the well-being of students, teachers, and parents; and promote a harmonious and positive atmosphere on school campuses. The research team evaluated the project’s effectiveness by conducting survey and focus group interviews in which more than 1800 primary students, around 1700 parents, and over 200 teachers participated. The project examined the mental health and well-being index, the participants’ positive and negative emotions, the students’ learning motivation, and their anxiety and depression levels. The risk and protective factors for their well-being were explored as well.

The research team will report the findings and present the implementation and impact of the project. In addition, school representatives will share their experiences and practical examples for implementing positive education in schools. You are welcome to cover the event.
