A symposium on the internationalization and international collaboration of higher education in the mainland and Hong Kong, the first of its kind, is held at CityU from 12 to 13 January.
CityU will become even more internationalized as it sets out to attract more non-local students, says Professor H K Chang, CityU President.
CityU has successfully completed its admission exercise on the mainland this year, with the number of students recruited exceeding targets. Both the quality and quantity of candidates are outstandingly high.
CityU is one of the first local institutions to participate in the National Joint Entrance Examination Scheme. Many outstanding high-school graduates from Beijing, Tianjin, Guangdong, Guangxi, Shanghai and Jiangsu have already been recruited.
In an effort to expand CityU's academic ties and exchange programmes with, and to benchmark CityU against, tertiary education institutions in Europe, Preident H K Chang led a delegation to visit five universities in Europe, from 3 to 9 April.
CityU's "Recruitment Talk" in Shanghai, drew an enthusiastic response from some 300 local students and parents.
Professor H K Chang, President leads a six-member delegation to Beijing 26-29 January 2005, to strengthen ties with the mainland and explore opportunities for more academic and diversified collaborations.

A CityU delegation to the US, 3-11 December, led by Professor H K Chang, University President, successfully established a partnership with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), which has agreed to sign a general academic exchange agreement and a student exchange agreement with CityU.
An eight-member delegation led by Professor Han Qide, Vice-Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, visited CityU, 19 October, 2004.
