In a month or two, the second phase of the Student Residence Project on Cornwall Street, will be completed, adding four more halls to the existing three in Phase One. Three of these are for undergraduates (Halls 4, 5 and 6); one for postgraduates (Hall 8). Students can expect to start moving in February or March.
About 300 guests, staff and students turned out on 16 January for the naming ceremony of the first residential block of City University's Student Hostels Project. The block was named the Jockey Club Humanity Hall, in honour of the generous contribution made by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust towards the development of the student residences.
When Phase One of the Student Hostels project is completed and students begin moving into the new residences on Cornwall Street this August, campus life at CityU will never be the same.
Dr Brian Mitchenere has crossed his fingers many times that a project will be finished on time and according to plan. So the Associate Director of Campus Planning can be excused for having his fingers and toes crossed these days, as the official completion date for Blocks I and II of Phase I of the student hostels project draws near.
