Rarely has a cultural festival exuded so much energy and zest in its opening ceremony. On 29 March, the "Hanbok Exhibition" opened in CityU's Run Run Shaw Library not only with a static display of the exquisite Korean national costume, but also a dynamic and potent demonstration of the traditional Korean martial art, Tae Kwon Do. Students and staff were given a sample of the Korean culture, from two different sides.

The Run Run Shaw Library has received a generous donation of Japanese hanga (woodprints) from Mr Denkichi Omi ( §À ¨ É´ ¦N ). An exhibition is now being held on Mr Omi's selected works in the Library Lobby.
Ms Amina Mohamed, Ambassador of Kenya and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO), Geneva, visited CityU's WTO Law and Dispute Resolution Centre on 24 March, to meet with SLW (Chair) Professor Peter Malanczuk. SLW Lecturer Dr Zhao Yun and several LLM students were also present.
In the first ever Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot, hosted by CityU's School of Law (SLW) 18-21 March, Tsinghua University (Beijing) triumphed over the other 13 participating teams from universities around the world. "Thanks to all of you who helped start a tradition that will provide a continuing and ready reference to City University as the arbitration school of the region," concluded Vis (East) Director Ms Louise Barrington.
"More confident and with better interpersonal skills..." is how Year 2 Chinese, Translation and Linguistics student Roanne Law expects to be after participating in the 2004 Student Leadership Conference (SLC). Such anticipated changes are not exclusive to Roanne, all participants expect the SLC to make a difference in their lives.
How can postgraduate students, immersed in academic research, relate their knowledge to the real world and develop a fruitful career? What problems confront them? The Postgraduate Forum: Career Development and Practical Application of Academic Research, jointly organized by the School of Graduate Studies and the CityU Postgraduate Association, attempted to provide some directions to these questions on 17 March.
