To meet the ever-changing challenges of a knowledge-based society in the 21st century, it is important to keep up with the latest developments in society through self-improvement and life-long learning. Frontline teachers duly have to look for opportunities for professional development.
Last month, 22 outstanding foreign language students were awarded scholarships and sponsorships at ceremonies organized by CityU's Division of Language Studies (LS). At the French Awards Presentation Ceremony held on 16 May, 12 French programme students were recognized for their outstanding academic studies.
While most universities put a hold on their summer internship programmes because of SARS, CityU has secured 348 job training placements in 112 companies in Hong Kong and the Mainland this year. The placements, for year-two students from three faculties, represent a significant increase over last year's 240 placements in 64 companies. Standard Chartered Bank, Sogo Hong Kong Co. Ltd and Maunsell Consultants Asia Ltd are among the new companies involved in the programme.
