Four research projects led by CityU have received $25 million from the Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) Scheme under the Research Grants Council (RGC).
The Department of IT signed a contract with Real-time Communications (HK) Limited to jointly develop multimedia message services (MMS) products for the mainland mobile communications market using IT's real-time lip-sync and animation system.
Representatives from the government, the private sector and academia debated how the advancement of knowledge through research could play a role in boosting Hong Kong's economy at a forum in the Wei Hing Theatre on 4 December. CityU's endeavours to tap into the scientific and technological potential of the Pearl River Delta are based on a two-pronged approach. In May this year, the University opened its Zhuhai Applied Research Centres, making it the first local tertiary institution to set up a research base in Guangdong's Southern Software Park, on the western side of the river estuary.
At 15 May inauguration ceremony establishing its Zhuhai Applied R&D Centres, CityU became the first local university to set up a research base at Guangdong's Southern Software Park.
Following the establishment of a research base at the Shenzhen Virtual University Park (SVUP), CityU has launched another such centre in Zhuhai's Southern Software Park at the end of this year.
The Department of Electronic Engineering and the Department of Computer Engineering and Information Technology are putting their best faces-and finest research projects-forward at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair 2001.
