Sights and sounds of Italy
Local | Bernard Charnwut Chan 2 Oct 2019Italia Mia, the first year for a festival of Italian culture in Hong Kong and Macau, started a few weeks ago.
Perhaps one of the biggest attractions for many Hong Kong people will be a rare chance to see some original Leonardo da Vinci drawings. This is also the 500th anniversary of his death.
As well as 12 works there are several models by contemporary craftsmen of machines he designed. The show is at the City University Exhibition Gallery until December 15.
Art fans may also appreciate Colors of Asia. These are paintings by locally based Francesco Lietti, including his striking portrayals of the Hong Kong skyline.
This is at the KC 100 Art Space in Kwai Chung until November 15. Registration is required, but it's free.
For opera fans, the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Opera Hong Kong Chorus present Verdi's Rigoletto. Produced by Warren Mok, performances take place from October 9 to 13 at the Cultural Center.
Other musical events include a concert by the Nous Quartet at the Youth Square Y Theater in Chai Wan on November 19 and a performance of Paganini's 24 Caprices by violinist Olivia Steindler at Poly U's Jockey Club Auditorium on November 28.
To many Hong Kong people, Italy is best known for its cuisine, and there are several dining and food-related educational events coming up. No fewer than three of them are about salt, and another two are about truffles.
