With the aim of promoting intellectual property rights awareness and to enhance our user education, the Library has invited two representatives from the Hong Kong government to talk about copyright on 4 November 2011. The speakers were Mr. Thomas Tsang, Acting Assistant Director of Intellectual Property (Copyright) / Senior Solicitor (Copyright) of the Intellectual Property Department and Mr. Vincent Lai, Superintendent of the Customs and Excise Department.

The presentations covered the following topics:
•     Basic concept of copyright
•     Permitted acts applicable to the education sector under the Copyright Ordinance (Cap 528)
•     The amendments to the permitted acts applicable to the education sector proposed by the Copyright        (Amendment) Bill 2011
•     Enforcement of copyright law
•     Criminal sanctions for copyright violation
