Lena has worked in Europe, the Middle East, and South and Southeast Asia.

Before joining the City University Language Centre in 2019, she spent almost twenty years with the Bell Educational Trust and the British Council, teaching students of all ages and levels, delivering General English, Business English, English for Academic Purposes, English for Specific Purposes, and Cambridge Exam Preparation courses. She is a certified oral examiner for Cambridge ESOL.

Fortunate to complete her DELTA under ELT guru Jim Scrivener, she was inspired by the man himself to take up teacher and trainer training, and has since then delivered workshops to English teachers on Teaching Pronunciation, Teaching Vocabulary, Using an Interactive Whiteboard, and Learner Independence. She has particularly fond memories of advising and training state school teachers in Sri Lanka as part of the British Council-led project.

Her experience in tertiary education includes teaching on the following courses:

  • B.A. TESOL: Methodology of Teaching Grammar, Introduction to Linguistics, Language Development for Trainee Teachers (Bell Teacher Training College / Jagiellonian University, Poland)
  • Developing Students' Communicative Skills for the Workplace – Preparing and Delivering Skills Based Lessons - Tourism Industry Teacher Training Course on Communicative Language Learning (Hai-Phong College of Tourism and Hospitality, Vietnam)
  • English for Academic Purposes and Learner Training (University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka)
  • English for Specific Purposes (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, KSA)

Her main interests include learner independence, pronunciation, teacher training and development.
