Biographies of Speakers

Mr Michael HL Lo
Founder and General Manager of EPC China Inc.

Mr Michael HL Lo has extensive business networks and excellent business development, project management and digital technology application track records within various vertical segments of Engineering & Construction industry in Asia Pacific.  He is the founder and General Manager of EPC China Inc., a digital solution based company that offers innovated technology and business process across the E & C value chain.

Before setting up EPC China Inc, Mr Lo was the Business Development Director of Kvaerner China and Chief Representative of Trafalgar House China based in Beijing since 1994. Kvaerner and Trafalgar House was ranked as top international contractor in 4 consecutive years in 1990’s by Engineering News Record. Prior to that, he was the Chief Representative of Jardine Matheson Group for South China region since 1987 and had been working with the China Business for over 30 years’ time.

Mr Lo is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School, which was nominated and sponsored by Kaverner Group. In 1994, he completed the General Management Program from Ashridge Business School, UK, which was sponsored by Jardine Matheson Group. Mr Lo got his Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from University of Newcastle Upon-Tyne, UK.

Dr Lu, Yang
Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, CityU

Dr Yang Lu obtained his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Rice University. After two years postdoc at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he joined City University of Hong Kong in 2012 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, and was then promoted to be Associate Professor from July 1st 2017. He has been working on mechanics of materials for more than ten years, in particular for his work on “structural bamboo materials and eco-composite design”, which was featured in 2016 CityU Discovery and Innovation Gala and stimulated great interests globally in sustainable structural materials research. Dr Lu has published more than 40 peer-reviewed journal papers with 4 US/China patents filed/pending. He is currently leading multiple research projects funded by RGC and NSFC. He is a recipient of the 2013/14 Hong Kong UGC Early Career Award.
