The Consul General Mr. CHO Yong-chun at the Q&A session

On 4 November 2014, the 6th cohort of LLM Chinese Judges attended an exchange activity organized by the Korean Consulate. The Associate Programme Leader of LLM Programme, Dr. DING Chunyan also attended the activity.

In the briefing session, a Korean senior researcher introduced Korean main achievements in the past few years and the progress of the China-Korea relationship. Korean economy increase is attributed to various factors, among which, its soaring total trade volume seems to be the major factor.

Globally, Korea ranks the 9th in terms of total trade volume. Since the success of the G20 Soul Summit in 2011, Korea has been playing a more active role in the world community. As for the China-Korea relationship, the speaker quoted a comment by foreign media that it is entering a honeymoon period. More ambitious goals for trade and personnel exchange between the two countries are to be achieved in the near future. Highlights of a recent China-Korea joint communique include strategic talks between leaders of the two countries, strategic exchange between Chinese and Korean diplomats and scholars, consensus on the North Korea nuclear issue, the establishment of the Free Trade Agreement, and the outright monetary transactions for RMB and KRW. He concluded the briefing with a sincere anticipation for a promising prospect of the China-Korea relationship.

The Q&A session following the briefing was hosted by the Consul General CHO Yong-chun. The attending judge students actively interacted with Mr CHO on a wide range of topics regarding Korean modern history and the recent development of China-Korea relationship, such as Korean investment modes in China, the trend of China-Korea tourism industry, talent schemes in Korea, and methods Korea has employed to preserve traditional culture in the context of globalization.

Dean of CityU’s School of Law, Professor Geraint HOWELLS and JSD Programme Leader, Dr GUAN Wenwei along with the judge students joined a Korean-styled dinner at the residence of the Consul General after the two sessions.
