The setting up of veterinary schools is a growth industry around the world. Presently there is another new school in the final stages of establishing itself in the United Kingdom – the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey in Guildford.


Professor David Hampson (Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health / Chair Professor of Pathobiology) was awarded the 2018 Gilruth Prize by the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA).


Ad hoc groups are convened at the initiative of the OIE Director General and experts are selected based on their experience and scientific excellence.


Dr Barbara Padalino (Assistant Professor in Animal Behaviour and Welfare, Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health) was recently interviewed on the ‘1 2 3’ programme on Radio 3 (Hong Kong) where she talked about travelling with animals.

The College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences was represented by three academic staff members at the 15th World Equine Veterinary Association Congress (http://www.chinaweva.org) which was held in Beijing from the 21st to the 23rd of April 2018.


Our first year BVM students have travelled to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. They will be spending five weeks at Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine in Upstate New York where they will learn about husbandry and management of cattle, sheep and horses as part of their extra-mural studies. The students are accompanied by the Extra-mural Education Coordinator, Dr Queeny Yuen.


Dr Barbara Padalino (Assistant Professor in Animal Behaviour and Welfare at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health) was presented with the Animal Welfare Award of the Animal Transportation Association (ATA) at its Annual Award Dinner on 9 April 2018 in Orlando, Florida.


The College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences has organised a display together with the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of Hong Kong to support World Veterinary Day on 28 April 2018.
