University Email

for Staff, Students, Alumni

The University provides email services to all CityU staff, students and alumni.  When they first join the university, they are automatically provided with a Microsoft 365 email account for conducting official university business.  Microsoft 365 (M365) is a suite of online productivity applications including email, calendar, contacts, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, etc.  Currently, CityU subscribes to different M365 plans for different types of users.

  • University Email Accounts for staff (with email domain @cityu.edu.hk) are hosted on a Microsoft 365 with A3 plan.  Staff, on need basis and with department head's approval, may uplift to A5 plan with additional cost to be borne by the respective home department.
  • University Email Accounts for students (with domain @my.cityu.edu.hk) are hosted on another Microsoft 365 with A3 plan as well.
  • University Email Accounts for Alumni are the same accounts that they used when they were students (with domain name @my.cityu.edu.hk).  The subscription plan, however, is A1 instead.
  • CityU Friends Email Service (FES) for retirees (with domain @friends.cityu.edu.hk) is provided to retirees who accept, in writing, HRO's invitation.  The service is provided through Google Workspace for Education, which is a suite of communication and collaboration applications.

Other Optional Email Address

The University offers also Google Workspace for Education (with domain @gapps.cityu.edu.hk) as an additional and optional email service to staff and students for teaching/learning use.  However, all official correspondence from the University will only be sent to the primary accounts described above.  Users may forward their email to the Google Workspace account at their own discretions.  University Google Workspace account has the same great features as a consumer Gmail account, with additional benefits of no advertisements and better privacy.  The account will be removed when the account owner is no longer a CityU staff or student.
