In response to the University's teaching requirements for more large-sized classrooms for conducting computer tutorials and practicals, the Computing Services Centre (CSC) has started the renovation of Room H by changing it from an open access terminal room to a dual purpose Classroom/Teaching Studio with a capacity of more than 80 seats. The new Teaching Studio satisfies general teaching needs on the one hand and maintains the computing resources for hands-on tutorial and open access on the other. The renovation work started in early July and completed in August, including the repartitioning, the relocation of air-conditioning components, wiring of network cables, installation of AV equipment, replacement of computer furniture, and so on. Taking the experience of previous designs, more corridor space was reserved to facilitate student flow and for teaching assistants/helpers to access students conveniently. The following table depicts the settings inside Teaching Studio Room H:

Computer 1 Instructor PC; 82 Student PCs
Printer 8 PCs connected to 1 network printer
AV Setup 2 Video projectors and 2 screens
Amplifier/ speakers/ wireless microphone
Other 4 White boards across the wall

The room has now been included in the CSC Teaching Studio booking system for class bookings as well as individual bookings.

In addition to the above major renovation work, the planned air-conditioning engineering work was also completed. In order to cater for peak seasons (which will last for several weeks every semester) when the CSC Student Terminal Area will be fully occupied, this modification will surely help to improve the air quality as well as maintaining a suitable temperature within the area.
