Reporting to the Provost through the Dean of College of Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, the Head of Department will provide leadership and strategic direction in research and professional education for the Department. The Head will encourage and promote academic excellence, and steer the Department to enhance the mission and vision of the University in alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan.
We are looking for an individual who holds a veterinary degree and a doctorate (Ph.D.) and has demonstrated leadership skills, and a distinguished record in teaching, research and scholarship, and service. The person should have demonstrated outstanding management effectiveness in a veterinary academic environment, and strong communication and networking skills to build and nurture internal and external contacts to the benefit of the Department. Candidates from non-veterinary backgrounds but with a track record in one of the focus areas (Comparative Medicine, Animal Welfare, Infectious Diseases, Public Health) will also be considered.
The appointee will be offered appointment to an academic rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. The headship appointment will be on a concurrent basis for an initial period of about three years. Remuneration package will be attractive and driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.
