Research Assistant in the Centre for Applied Computing and Interactive Media (Appointment for 12 months) [Ref. C/R/566/09]

Duties

The appointee will be responsible for managing the technical facilities for the Centre for Applied Computing and Interactive Media (ACIM) at the School of Creative Media, and providing effective solutions for all technical challenges and issues arising from ACIM research projects and activities. Main duties include to:

  1. Manage IT and audiovisual facilities, including computer hardware integration, server and networking setup, software installation and updates, data management and backup, determination and recommendation of emerging requirements, tracking market developments, securing pricing and supervising purchasing;
  2. Manage IT and audiovisual support for exhibitions and installation;
  3. Assist in collection, management and analysis of research data;
  4. Provide support in coordinating and organising research activities and events;
  5. Provide equipment maintenance and repair, and keep equipment inventory for ACIM, including implementation of the regularly required cycles of system calibration, maintenance and repair;
  6. Conduct and support tours and demonstrations, including control and repair the running of systems with respect to requirements of VIP tours and other educational and community outreach activities that ACIM engages in;
  7. Liaise between the staff of ACIM and the School of Creative Media in facilities and equipment management; and
  8. Perform any other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology/Electronic Engineering or related disciplines with at least 3 years’ professional experience in technical support management, and no more than a total of 6 years of service at the University.
  2. Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese;
  3. Good communication and interpersonal skills; and
  4. Being self-motivated, responsible, and ability to work independently are required.
  5. Basic knowledge of electronics such as Arduino integration would be an advantage.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
