Research Assistant in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health (Appointment for 18 months) [Ref. C/R/347/09]

 

Project

Stem Cell-based Veterinary Regenerative Medicine to Treat Non-communicable Diseases in Companion Animals

Duties

The appointee is expected to work with the CityU veterinary ambulatory service teams in Hong Kong.  S/he will be part of a dynamic group funded by AFCD which provides veterinary service to swine, poultry, and fish farmers in Hong Kong, and conducts applied animal health research aimed at reducing the need for antimicrobial treatments on farms. 

Duties include supporting operation of the veterinary ambulatory service teams, taking care of the pharmacy (counting, dispensing, and re-ordering medications and other clinical items), arranging for samples to be submitted to diagnostic labs, organizing internal documents, and record keeping.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Animal Science or a related discipline, with 1-2 years of veterinary clinical experience as a veterinary nurse/assistant, and no more than a total of 6 years of service at the University. Possession of an AIRC Cert II is desirable.  Good written and spoken communication skills in English and Chinese; attention to details; good record keeping, time management and organizational skills are required.  Specific experience working in the swine, poultry, or aquaculture industry would be an advantage.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
