Executive Officer in the Student Development Services [Ref. R/137/25]

Service learning is one of the key pillars in Student Development Services (SDS)’s services. It bridges CityUHK students with the community via an array of extra-curricular service-learning experiences, enriching students’ educational experience and whole-person development at CityUHK.

To deepen community involvement and learnings among students, a Gateway Education (GE) Course (GE1229 Community Service Engagement) has been introduced in the Semester A of 2024/25 as an elective course offered in collaboration between the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences and the Community Engagement Programme (CEP) of SDS.

SDS is seeking to hire for a professional to explore a wider variety of service opportunities and to cultivate new partnerships with NGOs, while enhancing pre- and post-service guided reflective learning in consolidating their learning and developing an understanding of the principles and ethics of community engagement and volunteerism.

Duties

Reporting to the Associate Director (Student Life and Resources), the appointee will be required to:

  1. Strengthen and expand connection with NGOs and community partners;
  2. Mentor students through providing tailored advice on their personal growth to deepen reflective learning;
  3. Organise training and reflection for students;
  4. Plan and execute community service for GE course and CEP participants (including organisation, regular operation, as well as logistics, administrative and on-site support);
  5. Monitor the quality of service and partnering organisations to ensure excellent delivery of the course outcome;
  6. Enhance engagement with the local community with the aim to educate students on the concept of social responsibility;
  7. Handle enquiries regarding the new GE course and regular liaison with students enrolled;
  8. Develop publicity events and activities of the service-learning programmes; and
  9. Perform any other duties as assigned.

The appointee will be required to work flexible hours on a need basis.

Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Social Work/Social Sciences/Media and Communication/Creative Media/ Marketing/Corporate Social Responsibility;
  2. Relevant working experience in related fields, preferably in project management, higher education, youth work or social services;
  3. Ability to plan, coordinate events and programmes independently;
  4. Experience in community service;
  5. Good knowledge of social media management;
  6. An enthusiastic attitude of work and a dynamic personality;
  7. Proficiency in computer applications (such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  8. Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and
  9. Ideal candidates should be a team player with excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. They should be proactive, responsible, and have integrity, while being open-minded, flexible, independent, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
