Assistant IT Manager/IT Engineer in the Computing Services Centre [Ref. D/352/09]

 

The Computing Services Centre (CSC) at City University of Hong Kong manages the University's Information Technology infrastructure and services covering Data Centre Operations, Cloud and System Hosting, Research Computing and High-Performance Computing, Communication and Networking, Workspace and Audio-Visual Technologies, and other related IT functions to support the University's operations. The Centre has about 110 staff and contractors currently.

Duties

  1. Install, configure, administer and maintain Microsoft Windows, SQL, web service, remote desktop gateway service, Microsoft system management tools, and 3rd party applications in VMware and Azure platforms;
  2. Act as a system integrator to set up and review the host and network firewall rules with the application owner;
  3. Coordinate with the Information Security Unit to assist in the forensics of the compromised systems and services;
  4. Configure and enhance the Veeam backup solution for Windows and SQL servers;
  5. Maintain and support the CIFS and NFS of the NetApp Storage;
  6. Review the system architecture with the system availability and network security for the existing and new windows supporting services;
  7. Provide technical assistance and consultation on the installation and configuration of Microsoft products and 3rd party applications;
  8. Coordinate with different stakeholders to provide post-installation support such as security patching and OS/Service upgrade;
  9. Suggest improvement and enhancement for the existing supporting services; and
  10. Perform any other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering/Information Technology or related disciplines, with at least 7 years’ post-qualification working experience;
  2. Hands-on experience in installing, configuring, and administering Microsoft windows servers with roles and features, Microsoft SQL, NetApp NAS service, and 3rd party applications for supporting the windows platform;
  3. Familiarity with Windows management tools such as SCOM, SCCM, Veeam backup for SQL and servers, and security protection software like Trend Micro HIDS, PaloAlto XDR, and CyberArk;
  4. Experience in web technology, cloud platforms, Power BI, and database administration;
  5. Effective management of multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a keen eye for details;
  6. Ability to communicate with users in different disciplines;
  7. Being proactive, eager to learn, and well-organised with a strong sense of responsibility;
  8. Strong analytical skills, good interpersonal and communication skills;
  9. Being adaptable to change, ability to work independently and as a team and under pressure;
  10. Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese are required; and
  11. Knowledge of Query on Splunk, basic networking principles (including routing, subnets, TCP/IP, VLANs, etc.), and PowerShell and VB scripting would be an advantage.


Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment as IT Officer.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
