IT Manager/Senior IT Engineer in the Computing Services Centre [Ref. D/343/09]

 

The Computing Services Centre (CSC) at City University of Hong Kong manages the University’s Information Technology infrastructure and services covering Data Centre Operations, Cloud and System Hosting, Research Computing and High-Performance Computing, Communication and Networking, Workspace and Audio-Visual Technologies, and other related IT functions to support the University’s operations.  The Centre has about 110 staff and contractors currently.

Duties

  1. Install, configure and maintain Solaris Unix and Linux operating systems; and analyze and resolve problems for the systems (including both Unix/Linux software and VMware or Azure/AWS platforms);
  2. Customize and apply alerts rules for the system and application monitoring using Oracle Enterprise Manager;
  3. Administer and support the Oracle EBS, Oracle VM, Oracle dB, and Oracle Exadata systems;
  4. Apply fixes and upgrade the OS version of the Solaris Unix, Linux, Oracle dB, and the Oracle Virtual Machine Cluster;
  5. Review the system architecture and network security of the Unix and Linux application systems with high availability and resiliency;
  6. Develop IaC using automation tools, such as Ansible, etc.
  7. Provide technical assistance and consultation on the use of the Unix and Linux platforms, and implement system performance analysis and benchmarks; and
  8. Perform any other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related disciplines, with at least 10 years’ post-qualification working experience;
  2. Experience in configuring Unix and Linux security baseline using CIS benchmarks;
  3. Good knowledge of the Unix and Linux operating systems, SAN storage environments, file systems, and network protocols;
  4. Knowledge of networking and storage principles (including routing, subnets, TCP/IP, VLANs, secured NFS, etc.);
  5. Effective management of multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a keen eye for details;
  6. Willingness to communicate with users in different disciplines;
  7. Proactive, eager to learn, and well-organized with a strong sense of responsibility;
  8. Strong analytical, good interpersonal, and communication skills;
  9. Adaptable to change, ability to work independently and as a team and under pressure;
  10. Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and
  11. Preference will be given to candidates with Unix and Linux command shell skills and scripting languages.


Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment as IT Engineer.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
