Technical Officer (2 posts) in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences [Ref. C/727/09]

 

Duties

  1. Provide anatomical and histological support in teaching and research activities;
  2. Perform other clinical teaching support to practical classes;
  3. Communicate with external parties for arranging and collecting cadavers and other clinical teaching specimen;
  4. Arrange appropriate transportation, storage and handling of cadavers and teaching specimen;
  5. Work closely with Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) and other departments to prepare laboratories for teaching;
  6. Provide proper handling of clinical and biological materials including formaldehyde solutions;
  7. Perform data entry accurately and maintain proper documentation/inventory for teaching specimen and related teaching activities;
  8. Report any abnormalities / incidents to supervisor without delay;
  9. Assist with equipment, chemical and consumable purchases for clinical teaching activities;
  10. Adhere to and maintain high standards of occupational health and safety regulations in clinical skill laboratories and research laboratories; and
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned.

 

Shift duty and working on Sundays and public holidays may be required.

Requirements

A Master’s / Bachelor’s / Associate degree in Animal Science / Biological or Biomedical Sciences / Molecular Biology / Cell Biology or a related discipline, with at least 2 years’ working experience in a teaching, research or diagnostic laboratory.  Applicants shall be organized, flexible and attentive to detail.  Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) is required.  Possession of valid Hong Kong driving license and the certificate of Competency for Boilers and Pressure Vessels Ordinance – Class III Electrical Boiler is preferred.  Experience in animal handling would be an advantage.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
