Mr Jonathan Chu is a Partner of CMS Cameron Mckenna Nabarro Olswang LLP, and its Hong Kong office, Lau, Horton & Wise LLP in Association with CMS Hasche Sigle, Hong Kong LLP.

He is the Head of Intellectual Property in Hong Kong and has an active technology practice. Jonathan is counsel to a number of leading international companies and is also actively involved in advising a number of promising start-ups based in Hong Kong, Europe and North America.

Mr Chu has a complete IP practice, ranging from advising on transactions, to worldwide prosecution of IP rights, to IP litigation and enforcement strategies in Hong Kong and Mainland China. As much of his IP matters are rooted in technology, he has carved out a substantial commercial practice advising technology companies on a broad range of matters including advising on commercial outsourcing, data protection/cybersecurity, and regulatory issues.

With over fifteen years of experience, Mr Chu has advised a wide array of leading companies in industries including consumer products, electronics, pharmaceutical and life sciences, entertainment, art, financial institutions, fashion, toys and games, software, SAAS, hospitality, TMT, TCM, aviation, and energy, amongst others. He is regularly sought out by clients as their go-to legal counsel to guide them through their regional contentious and non-contentious legal matters.

Mr Chu is well recognised for his enforcement and transaction expertise, being called “truly a master in enforcement and IP transactions”. He has been recognised for his Intellectual Property and Technology practice in leading publications. He was named as one of Asia’s 40 under 40 outstanding legal professionals in the region in 2017, and is currently ranked in leading international publications. He also serves on the Consultant Editorial Board for LexisNexis Hong Kong, and is a Mentor with SOSV and Chinaccelerator.
