Exploring collaboration opportunities with Towngas Energy

On 16 February 2021, representatives of the School of Data Science (SDSC) and The Hong Kong Institute for Data Science (HKIDS) jointly received two experts who are top management of Towngas Energy during a visit to CityU. It signifies our dedication to fostering interactions and collaborations with local enterprises. The meet-up brings about fruitful exchange in various research domains in particular the latest industry trend and development of renewable energy and smart city technology.

Visiting guests included Dr Jian Hang John QIU, Chief Executive Officer and Mr Humphrey NG, Vice President of Towngas Energy. Representatives from CityU included Professor S. Joe QIN, Chair Professor of Data Science and Dean of School of Data Science, Director of Hong Kong Institute for Data Science and Centre for Systems Informatics Engineering; Professor Minghua CHEN, Professor of School Data Science and Assistant Director of Hong Kong Institute for Data Science; Dr Zijun ZHANG, Associate Professor of School of Data Science and Associate Director of Centre for Systems Informatics Engineering; and Dr Qingpeng ZHANG, Associate Professor of School of Data Science.   

Professor Qin gave a brief overview on the core competences of SDSC and HKIDS to Towngas Energy whereas Professor Minghua Chen and Dr Zijun Zhang shared their research areas in renewable energy by using data-driven methodology. Dr Qiu introduced the main business and operational development of Towngas Energy.

Professor Qin extended a warm welcome to guests. “Both SDSC and HKIDS are looking forward to developing long-term collaboration relationship, such as research projects, internship and enrichment opportunities as well as other kinds of potential collaborations with Towngas Energy,” he said.

CEO of Towngas Energy Dr Qiu also thanked for having a meeting with SDSC and HKIDS. “Towngas Energy is exploring collaboration opportunities with different institutes around the world. We need the insights and inputs from leading academics and data scientists to develop the latest research technology for renewable energy.”
