Since Semester A 2012-13, a one-time award - Teaching Start-Up Grant (TSG) has been made available for full-time new academic staff who are Lecturer grade or above and have joined CityU within the past 24 months. It is to assist them in implementing creative teaching ideas as they start their careers at CityU.
TSG, as its TDG counterpart, is funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) to support the development of learning and teaching initiatives. The UGC emphasizes that the Grant should integrate and complement institution-level initiatives and promote innovations to enhance the quality of teaching for the better provision of quality education to students.
Projects should produce demonstrable and direct teaching and learning benefits which support the implementation of the Discovery and Innovation-enriched Professional Curriculum, as well as advanced good teaching methods in specific disciplines. For details of DEC initiatives at CityU.
In addition, the TDG Approval Panel agrees the use of the TDG budget for the deployment of research students in 2018-19 (initiated by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) followed by liaising with the FO), in the form of studentship with condition that the concerned research students shall work on the TSG/ TDG projects. The funding ceiling is HK$120,000 per project.
Maximum project duration: 18 months
