Recent Achievements of Students in the College of Science

The College proudly presents the following recent achievements of our students:

Department of Chemistry: iGEM 2022 - Bronze Medal

The team "SeCure", comprising 7 undergraduate students from the department and other students, won the Bronze Medal in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition, organised by the iGEM Foundation in Paris. Team Members include:

Team "SeCure" was working on the development of novel anticancer drugs for resistant colon cancers based on natural products that were isolated from genetically modified fungi. The iGEM Competition gives students the opportunity to push the boundaries of synthetic biology by tackling everyday issues facing the world. Over 350 teams around the globe participated in the 2022 competition.

Department of Mathematics: First Prize CUMCM

Zhenda SHEN and Tianxing SUN, two third-year students, teamed up with Data Science student Junye DU and won the First Prize in the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) 2022. They are the only team from Hong Kong to win the First Prize in the competition.

CUMCM is an annual contest for undergraduates all over the world, organised by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM) since 1992. Over 54,200 teams from Mainland China, HKSAR and Macau participated in CUMCM 2022.
