This is to remind you that, as announced
several times in the network messages
and previous issues of Network Computing, the two Academic OpenVMS
machines Texas and Spain will be phased out by the end of June 2001.
All teaching and research work previously run on OpenVMS will have
to be migrated to the Sun Solaris environment. The Computing Services
Centre (CSC) will provide assistance on the migration to ensure
that the transfer is as smooth as possible.
If you have not yet migrated, please
supply us with the following information so that we can plan ahead
and provide better migration assistance:
-
The number and usernames of the
Solaris accounts that are needed on Moscow, together with the
required disk quota.
-
f you plan to transfer to existing
Solaris account(s), the username(s) of those account(s) and
the required disk quota.
-
The software that you need to use
on the Solaris environment. Please note that all software on
the OpenVMS environment has its own counterpart being installed
under the Solaris environment.
-
If you need to have a huge capacity
on CPU, memory, and disk space on the Solaris environment, please
inform us as well so that special arrangement can be made.
-
The time frame for the transfer
spans only a few months from now. Please note that all transfer
work must be completed before the end of Semester B, and the
sooner the better.
Please send all the above information
through e-mail to cc-vms@cityu.edu.hk
as soon as possible. If you have any queries or comments, please
do not hesitate to contact us through the same e-mail address or
contact our Help Desk at ext. 7658.
