Virtual Desktop Service (VDS)

Virtual Desktop Service (VDS) for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is provided to cater for the trend of adopting personal mobile devices for teaching and learning. Users can use their personal mobile devices, such as ipads, tablets and notebook computers, to connect to this service via the campus wireless LAN and enjoy a virtual desktop experience similar to working with a PC in the Teaching Studios.

Currently, 300 Virtual Desktop connections are provided and all Virtual Desktop connections are equipped with Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) for graphic intensive software support. Users will have a four-hour session for each connection. The session will be closed automatically after four hours and refreshed to its initial state. Each user can connect to one session only at a time.

Users are advised to save their working files on removable storage (e.g. USB Flash Drive) regularly. The Computing Services Centre will not be responsible for any data loss.

For more information, please refer to Frequently Asked Questions which also include step-by-step instructions on
"How to connect to the VDS".
