Prof Zhong was appointed as Dean of School of Journalism and Communication at Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) in Guangzhou, China in 2022.
 
She obtained her PhD in Communication from CityU in 2009, under the supervision of Prof Jonathan Zhu. She was a Fulbright Visiting Student to University of California at Santa Barbara in 2008-2009. Prior to studying at CityU, she studied at Peking University, majoring in Information Science at both BA and MA levels. Since graduation from CityU, Zhijin has been with SYSU, was promoted to Professor in April 2018 and became an Associate Dean in July 2018.
 
Prof Zhong has received competitive research awards from International Communication Association (ICA), Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Communication (CAHJC), and elsewhere. She is the incoming president of Chinese Association of Computational Communication Association (CACCA).
