HONGKONG-(COM) A four-member student team comprising team leader ZHANG Zerui (COM, CityU), MO Yayuan (COM, CityU), ZHU Yuejia (EF, CityU), and WANG Zhixuan (CS, CityU) won the HK TECH 300 Seed Fund recently.
 

The team developed the initiative App R Square for the knowledge-sharing and semi-acquaintance network building, with innovative combination in group chat and sharing forum. The team aims at creating the third space for university students to exchange resource while making friends in the same direction. With the seed fund of HK$100,000, the R Square App now is on the developing period and will come out in November soon. Its functions are tailored-made based on sincere needs from university students under a large database. The HK TECH commission will review the team’s performance throughout the whole seed fund process. The qualified teams can be promoted to the Angle Fund and gain the one million startup capital. “We would try our best to make the business go further,” said ZHANG Zerui, leader of the team. 
 

HK Tech 300 is a large-scale flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme organised by CityU for aspiring entrepreneurs among CityU students, alumni, research staff and others to launch start-ups and ignite their entrepreneurship journey. The programme aims to create 300 start-ups in three years. The funded App grows from an assignment in the classroom of COM2501 Internet Communication (Instructor: Dr. WANG Xiaohui, Vincent) to award winner among fierce competition. This is the first seed fund team led by COM students. “Teammates from multidisciplinary academic backgrounds and with solid industry experience enabled us to get the fund,” said MO Yayuan. “It is good to see how students with different background work cooperatively to put their innovative idea into action,” said Dr. WANG Xiaohui, Vincent, the supervisor of the team.
