On November 8, 2021, Mr. George Chen, Public Policy Director for Greater China, Mongolia, and Central Asia at Facebook (now named Meta) was invited by Prof. Liu to visit COM. Mr. George Chen delivered a talk entitled “Tech for Good: Social Media and You – Front Seat View from Facebook Public Policy Leader” at the department research seminar. COM faculty members, along with BA, MA, and PhD students attended the seminar. Zoom participants also joined the event. George shared his work experience at Facebook and introduced Facebook’s recent projects that intend to make positive social impacts to different societies. After the talk, students and Zoom participants asked many questions and discussed issues related to algorithm, policy, transparency, and technology. George also met with BA and MA program leaders to discuss future collaborations between COM and Facebook (Meta).
