Giving Young Minds a Preview of Higher Learning

When asked about tertiary education, secondary school students would burn with curiosity as zillions of imagination and questions may arise. To impart the promising journey of higher learning at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) partnered with CityU’s Provost Office and received a group of prospective students from PLK Mrs Ma Kam Ming-Cheung Fook Sien College and SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School on 25 February 2023 at Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre.

The event began with an admission overview detailing the undergraduate programmes, study opportunities, and resources available at CityU and CLASS. However, it was more than just an information session. Dr Nancy DAI, Assistant Professor of Department of Media and Communication (COM), later delivered a taster lecture on relational communication through technology. She unfolded a few theoretical perspectives on computer-mediated communication with real-life situations and amusing examples. The interactive discussion also engaged students to reflect on their everyday experiences with social media.

Guided by student representatives and staff, the participants threw an eye on the learning facilities at COM, including the Omnimedia Digital Newsroom, 3D Virtual TV Studio, and Advertising Design and Shooting Studio. Saturated in the academic atmosphere, they were able to envisage fulfilling their uncharted potential at CLASS.
