Offer Training for Secondary Chinese Language Teachers to Adapt Curriculum Reform

The Department of Chinese and History (CAH) collaborates with Hong Kong’s Education Bureau to organise a series of professional development courses for secondary Chinese Language teachers.

This Teacher Professional Development Course Series, comprising 10 three-hour courses held from August 2021 to February 2022, is set out in response to the implementation of optimising measures of senior secondary Chinese Language curriculum and assessment, which will be effective at Secondary 4 from the 2021/22 school year. Designed and delivered by seven faculty members of CAH, two scholars from other local tertiary institutions and nine senior secondary school teachers, the series integrates professional knowledge and practical teaching experience that will provide valuable resources for secondary Chinese Language teachers to adapt to the new changes of the curriculum.

The topics covered include curriculum planning, school-based assessment, the teaching of practical writing and recommended passages, integrating the elective part of the curriculum into the compulsory part, and school-based Chinese Language learning activities.

Secondary Chinese language teachers CHAN Chi-kian and PAO Kwok-hung, and Dr LU Chia-hui of CAH, were the speakers of the first two courses held online on 13 and 24 August 2021. The third and fourth courses will take place, also on virtual space, in September and October, while the latter courses will be delivered in-person on CityU campus. It is expected that over a thousand senior form Chinese Language teachers will benefit from the courses.
