The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is pleased to announce that Prof Richard M WALKER, Dean of the College, Chan Hon Pun Professor of Behavioural and Policy Sciences, won the Louis Brownlow Award with his contribution to Public Administration Review entitled “Does Strategic Planning Improve Organizational Performance? A Meta-Analysis”, coauthored with Prof Bert GEORGE (Ghent University) and Mr Joost MONSTER (Focus Orange).

The Louis Brownlow Award is bestowed by The American Society for Public Administration on the best article written by a public administrator to appear in the journal Public Administration Review for the volume year.

Professor Walker’s research interests range from public management and performance, and management reform in Asia, to environmental methods and sustainable development. In his award-winning coauthored research paper, the authors discovered the significant impact of strategic planning on organisational performance in the private and public sectors, across international settings. The findings suggested that strategic planning should be part of the standard managerial approaches in contemporary organisations and contradict many of the critiques of strategic planning.

The award will be presented during the annual American Society for Public Administration conference in Anaheim, California, on 3 – 7 April 2020.
