CLASS alumni named in Honours List

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the city’s handover to Chinese sovereignty. According to the 2017 Honours List published in the Government Gazette on 1 July 2017, two alumni of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) have been awarded the prestigious Hong Kong ICAC Medal for Meritorious Service and Medal of Honour (MH) for their valuable contributions to society.

The awardees are Mr CHAN Yin-chiu, a graduate of the Department of Public Policy who obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Public and Social Administration and Dr KAM Sau-wan, a graduate of the Department of Applied Social Sciences who obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work.

Mr Chan is honoured for his exemplary and devoted service in the ICAC. Currently as a Senior Commission Against Corruption Officer, Mr Chan has served in the Commission for over 35 years. Dr Kam is the General Manager of Hong Kong Christian Service (HKCS) Children Development and Education Core Business and Chairman of Council of Non-profit Making Organisations for Pre-primary Education. She is honoured for her dedicated contributions to the promotion of quality kindergarten education.

Dr CHAN Kai-yue Jason, a graduate of the Department of Public Policy who obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Public and Social Administration, has been appointed Justice of the Peace (JP) by the Government. There were a total of 97 persons appointed JP this year. Dr Chan is the Chairman of Totaltact Network and Head of IT at the College of Professional and Continuing Education of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has also been awarded Ten Outstanding CIO (Chief Information Officer) by the CIO and IT Executive Association in 2017.

Congratulations to Mr Chan Yin-chiu, Dr Kam Sau-wan, MH and Dr Chan Kai-yue Jason, JP on their outstanding achievements.
