Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) at City University of Hong Kong.
CLASS is committed to fostering research-led learning, practical knowledge, multicultural competence, and global awareness and offering students opportunities to develop cultural, social and political understanding, creativity, and critical thinking. We cultivate our talented students to develop their full potential, get prepared to tackle the needs of our ever-changing world and make positive impact to the society.
CLASS offers 11 undergraduate majors and over 30 minors ranging from Asian and international studies, public policy, and social and behavioural sciences, to humanities subjects like English, Chinese, linguistics, translation, and culture and heritage management. We also have 17 taught post-graduate programmes in a rich array of disciplines. The College takes pride to have dedicated faculty coming from diverse backgrounds, striving hard to pursue excellence in both teaching and research.
According to the latest QS Rankings by Broad Subject Area, CLASS ranked 59th in Social Sciences and Management, and 95th for Arts and Humanities in the world. With respect to the world rankings of individual subjects in 2019, CLASS also puts in a strong performance – Linguistics (32nd), Media and Communication Studies (27th), Social Policy & Administration (35th) and many other subjects ranked the world’s top 100. In the latest Research Assessment Exercise conducted by the University Grants Committee, Communications and Media Studies ranked first in Hong Kong again.
In coherence with the University’s mission to go global, CLASS continues to expand its global network with institutions across the globe. We have built partnerships with top universities such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of California, Berkeley, Columbia University, Boston University and University of Vienna for international collaborations.
