Advanced Laboratory for Environmental Research & Technology (ALERT)


The Advanced Laboratory for Environmental Research & Technology (ALERT) is a part of the Joint Advanced Research Institute of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and the University of Science & Technology, China (USTC), established in the Suzhou Industrial Park since 2005. It is a platform for the collaboration between the two universities on the development and application of advanced environmental technologies to address the various water pollution problems faced by Suzhou as well as the rest of the Yangtze River Delta region. ALERT occupies the third floor of the Joint Advanced Research Institute and is consisted of over 10 well-equipped laboratories. Research staff from CityU and USTC, as well as over 20 Ph.D. students under the CityU-USTC Joint PhD scheme are working on a variety of important research projects, such as qualitative and quantitative determination of contaminants, identification of pollution sources, investigation of the behaviour and fates of contaminants, pollution budgeting, assessment of risk to public health, evaluation of remediation strategies, development of new treatment technology, etc., in ALERT.
